As we know, the employment of university graduates is becoming more and more serious problem. most people attribute it to the expanding recruitment of universitys in china around 2000.

Last week, I heard another opinion from Mr. Yuan, who is the dean of shool of economics, in macroeconomics class. Mr. Yuan told us that the structure of market is an important factor for the employment problem of graduates.

Firstly let us see the export of goods. The export make significant contributions to development of China's economy and provide lots of jobs. Since the reform and openness in 1981, many people, especially the farmers leave their home and come to the coastal and economic open cities to looking for jobs. The salary of employees from the countries is very low compared to developed states. however, it is better than working in countries. And because of the cheap labours, many foreign big companies have transfered their production sector to china in order to reduce the product costs. the export volume of goods increases year by year and the demand for cheap labours is also growing. Therefore, we can see the goods for export are mainly the labour-intensive products and  the cheap labours is becoming scarce resource in china.

Then let's see import. Conversly, the goods of import are mainly the knowledge-intensive products. In high and new technologies china drop behind developed states for many years, although the science&technology of china have made tremendous progress these years. The huge import of knowledge-intensive products results in that the knowledge-intensive industry have no opportunity to develope and can provide enough jobs for university graduates. In other words, the tremendous import creates many jobs for foreign states.

After hearing of this opinion, I know why our government restricted import of many kinds of products, like cartoon from Japan. I think the best way to solve the employment of graduates should be to expand the domestic demand of goods.
